Should have stayed in bed…

Posted in My life tagged , , at 9:23 pm by Nici

So the alarm went off at 6.30am as usual, except this morning it was dark, blowing a gail and raining. Not nice. I forced myself to get out of bed and then battled to get my son up, who like me could have quite happily stayed in bed!

I dropped my son off at school as it was raining and 10 minutes later on my way to work the rain came down so heavy that the visability was reduced to virtually nothing. I was on country roads but luckily they were roads I know but even still I had to slow down to 20 mph just so I could see the road.

It took me an hour to get to work and after parking the car and walking to work in the rain, I finally arrived just on time. I was however wet and looking more than a little windswept.

Half an hour after arriving at work we had a powercut. So my job being mainly working on a computer meant that I couldn’t do any work! After two and a half hours of no electric I went to the local sandwich shop and got teas and coffees for the office and we had those with cream cakes as it was a colleagues birthday.

After four hours of no electric it was decided that I may as well leave early and work longer tomorrow. However as at 5pm this evening the electric still wasn’t on!

Not sure whether to go in tomorrow! Lol!

Christmas - Part 1

I have written Part 1 as I am sure I am going to write lots more in the next couple of months! Hee hee!

Well I am getting excited already! I started my christmas shopping on Friday and I got even more excited when I saw that Tesco’s have started putting out christmas stuff already! : )

My sister and one of my friends are just as bad as me and we tend to ring each other when we see something “christmasy”! Infact my friend and I have said that we should work together over christmas as everyone gets fed up with us and we get just as excited as each other!

I think the reason why I love christmas so much is being nice and cosy in doors, good food and spending time with the family - Oh and of course the presents! ; )

Big School - Part 2

Posted in Family tagged , , at 11:08 am by Nici

My son came home last week with his lunchbox broken as some year 11’s pushed him over on the field and he fell on his lunchbox. : (

Then yesterday he came home saying that some of the year 8’s have been picking on him, giving him a “peanut” and pushing him in the back.

Why do some children have to be so mean to the new children? Luckily my son is taking it all in his stride but I have told him that if it gets any worse to tell me so I can tell the school.

It’s such a shame as apart from that he is really enjoying senior school and making lots of new friends!

Updated 24th September 2007:

Well on Friday my son was pushed over and kicked in the head. The school rung and told me and when my son got home he had a couple of lumps and grazes. One of the injuiries was on his eyebrow so it was lucky that it wasn’t any lower or his eye would have been kicked. He was still taking paracetamol on Saturday morning for the pain. : (

Today however my son did not get bullied and the school have spoken to him about what is happening and they also rung me. I am keeping everything crossed that things continue to improve….

 Updated 30th September 2007:

Well my son has had no trouble at all this week so hopefully it has all blown over. I think the school have said something in the assemblies to the children.

I woke up to a lovely beautiful day this morning, however the sun was still low and when I popped my head out of the back door there was a definate chill in the air. Although the day did warm up it got chilly when the sun started to go down.

The sun is slowing slinking down my garden and it won’t be long until it has disappared all together. The plants are going red and the leaves are starting to drop.

Candles, cups of tea and slippers are starting to call me! lol!

Stephen King - The Stand

I have been reading this book for about a month now as it is over 1,300 pages long!!!!

It is marking it’s 30 year anniversary next year and yet this book seems timeless. A fantastic read and I think the easiest of Stephen King’s books to get into.

I am really enjoying reading this book and although I am only about half way through, it is still holding my attention and will go down as one of my most favourite books ever!!!

Updated 1st October 2007:

Just to say i’m up to page 781 which in my version is towards the end of chapter 50. Only 544 pages left! Lol!

Updated 4th November 2007:

I finished The Stand last night and what a wonderful book it was. There were so many scenarios and emotions in this book and you often think “what would I do?” during the book.

I am glad I can say that I have read and enjoyed this book. : )

Big School - Part 1

Posted in Family tagged , at 7:27 pm by Nici

My son started seniors this week. He was up at 6.15am and by the time I was up at 7am, he had made his lunch, made me breakfast and a cup of tea (on a tray), got dressed, made his bed and had done his hair! He was just soooo excited! I however was feeling quite anxious as I remember my first day at seniors and also how mean older children can be to the “new ones”.

When my son walked out of the door to walk to school, I felt all sad but also oh so proud as he looked so smart and grownup in his school uniform.

When he walked back in that afternoon he was so happy! He had had a great day and loved his new school. Nobody had picked on him and he couldn’t wait to go back the next day! Phew!!

My Mum

Posted in Family tagged , , at 7:17 pm by Nici

My mum was diagnosed with a cancer called Multiple Myeloma back in 1999. She was originally given seven years at the most but she has passed this due to her strength and determination.

Multiple Myeloma is a blood cancer which affects the bones. Mum has several areas of bone destruction which means she has to be very careful not to fall or do things that we take for granted otherwise her bones would just crumble.

I am very proud of Mum and she is an inspiration to us all.
