Flowers : )

My son arrived home from school today with a handful of daffodils for me. He looked so lovely holding them out to me on the doorstep!
I think it is very very sweet of him at the age of 12 to be doing things like this but not sure if I should tell him off for picking them! He said they were growing wild in the woods by his school…
Still, they have made my kitchen look nice and cheery!

Mum

Mum is about to start a new course of cancer medicine and going onto a drug called Velcade as her body has become drug resilient and her previous drug has stopped working.
On the last two occasions that mum has started a new cancer drug she arranged her funeral and then updated her will.

This time she has asked dad if he will go through all the arrangements and the memory boxes that she has made for us all to make sure that she hasn’t forgotten anything. Dad has said no and that they have plenty of time to do that. So mum has asked if I will come as well and the three of us can go through them instead.

I think it will be quite a difficult day and that’s probably why mum hasn’t asked my sister as she would find it too upsetting.

A nice way to wake up!

Yesterday I said to my son that we would have a busy day today as the house needed a good clean and I had lots of washing to do as well.
When I got up this morning my son had cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the bathroom, sorted out his washing, emptied the cat litter tray, fed the cat and tidied and polished his room!
He then proceeded to make me a cup of tea and do the hoovering!
What a good boy! He will make someone a good husband one day! : )

Kids!

My son arrived home from school yesterday in a panic telling me “Mum, we have to go back to the school, iv’e left my coat there and it’s got my mobile phone in it” and there I was all cosy having a cup of tea after not long being in from work and watching a really good programme on tv.

So in the car we get and off to school we go. I stayed in the car whilst my son was looking as the school is huge and it was really cold! 25 minutes later my son comes back empty handed looking all upset as he couldn’t find it.

We came home and as my son was unpacking his school bag and what should be scrunched up at the bottom but his coat and his mobile phone…..

Ggrrrr!

Oh and not forgetting that he was covered in mud as well so the blazer had to go straight in the washing machine and he had muddy trousers as well so when he knelt down to stroke the cat there was mud all over the carpet!

My Uncle

Posted in Family tagged at 11:36 pm by Nici

Very sadly my favourite Uncle who lives in Canada passed away yesterday.

A month and a half ago they thought that he might have lung cancer so they were running tests to confirm it. But unfortunately at the weekend he got rushed to hospital with pheumonia (sp?) where he then had a stroke and slipped into a coma and died.

I am devastated. I hadn’t seen my Uncle for about 20 years but we stayed in touch with emails, letters, postcards and phone calls. It was always my plan to save up the air fare and go and visit him but sadly he has been taken far far too early (he was only 65).

I have been walking around in a daze since my Dad told me. I am taking comfort that he is looking down on me and taking care of me.

RIP Uncle Peter, you will be greatly missed and I loved you very much.

Big School - Part 2

Posted in Family tagged , , at 11:08 am by Nici

My son came home last week with his lunchbox broken as some year 11’s pushed him over on the field and he fell on his lunchbox. : (

Then yesterday he came home saying that some of the year 8’s have been picking on him, giving him a “peanut” and pushing him in the back.

Why do some children have to be so mean to the new children? Luckily my son is taking it all in his stride but I have told him that if it gets any worse to tell me so I can tell the school.

It’s such a shame as apart from that he is really enjoying senior school and making lots of new friends!

Updated 24th September 2007:

Well on Friday my son was pushed over and kicked in the head. The school rung and told me and when my son got home he had a couple of lumps and grazes. One of the injuiries was on his eyebrow so it was lucky that it wasn’t any lower or his eye would have been kicked. He was still taking paracetamol on Saturday morning for the pain. : (

Today however my son did not get bullied and the school have spoken to him about what is happening and they also rung me. I am keeping everything crossed that things continue to improve….

 Updated 30th September 2007:

Well my son has had no trouble at all this week so hopefully it has all blown over. I think the school have said something in the assemblies to the children.

Big School - Part 1

My son started seniors this week. He was up at 6.15am and by the time I was up at 7am, he had made his lunch, made me breakfast and a cup of tea (on a tray), got dressed, made his bed and had done his hair! He was just soooo excited! I however was feeling quite anxious as I remember my first day at seniors and also how mean older children can be to the “new ones”.

When my son walked out of the door to walk to school, I felt all sad but also oh so proud as he looked so smart and grownup in his school uniform.

When he walked back in that afternoon he was so happy! He had had a great day and loved his new school. Nobody had picked on him and he couldn’t wait to go back the next day! Phew!!

My Mum

My mum was diagnosed with a cancer called Multiple Myeloma back in 1999. She was originally given seven years at the most but she has passed this due to her strength and determination.

Multiple Myeloma is a blood cancer which affects the bones. Mum has several areas of bone destruction which means she has to be very careful not to fall or do things that we take for granted otherwise her bones would just crumble.

I am very proud of Mum and she is an inspiration to us all.
